Five Videos of the LM 120 with HyperX

VIDEO 1:   Introduction & Setup

Choose a room in the home with access to an electrical outlet; a firm, sturdy bed and space to move around the bed. Lay out the plexiglass Support Platform. Position, connect and adjust the Actuator Enclosure box and the Resting Platform to accommodate the surgical leg. Power-up the unit. Connect the Hip Stabilizer Belt. Assemble and secure the Foot Pedal. Follow the prompts on the Tablet screen to continue the set-up.

VIDEO 2:   Patient Positioning

Using a step stool if necessary, the client sits on the edge of the Resting Platform. He/she lifts and centers the buttocks on the cushion and against the backrest of the Resting Platform, sitting as erect as possible. The client swivels his/her body, straddling the Actuator Enclosure box. Simultaneously, the caregiver lifts the surgical leg under the thigh and the calf, placing and strapping the leg into the Foot Pedal. Keep the leg as straight as possible when entering or exiting the unit. The client laces and locks the Hip Stabilizer Belt. The client presses Extension/UP and Flexion/DOWN (forward and backward) on the Tablet until the leg is straight and comfortable. The caregiver laces the Velcro thigh straps together, three inches from the surgical scar.

VIDEO 3:   HyperX Mode

The goal of HyperX Mode is to use straps, cams and two forward/reversing motors to depress the thigh up to ¾ of an inch to increase extension (straightening). The client moves the slide on the Tablet to set the time for one to 10 seconds (the average time is five seconds). The client presses Start, listening for the motors to kick-in. When the motors start, press a finger on the screen for a count of 10 and release. The straps, cams and motors now dwell or pause for the length of time designated. After the time lapses, the cams and motors reverse, releasing pressure, and the thigh relaxes into the start position. The cycle can be repeated for up to 10 minutes. When finished, unlace the straps and lay them to each side of the Actuator Enclosure. If the client wishes to stop this cycle before the designated time period, break finger contact with the screen or touch the STOP sign.

VIDEO 4:   Therapy Mode

The goal of Therapy Mode is to direct leg movement after surgery to restore the client’s normal range of motion, achieving between 60-130 degrees of flexion and 30-0 degrees of extension. The client must be properly positioned throughout the activity: sitting upright and back on the Resting Platform; Hip Stabilizer Belt fastened around the waist; forefoot, ankle and calf strapped into the Foot Pedal; and a straight sight line from the end of the Actuator of the forefoot, to the knee, to the client’s ear lobe. When the client presses Flexion/Up, the leg bends. When the client presses Extension/DOWN, the leg straightens out. In the event of discomfort, the client breaks finger contact with the screen. Therapy Mode, with parameters set by the Physical Therapist or Physical Therapist Assistant, should be practiced for up to 20 minutes per session, four times per day.

VIDEO 5:   Exercise Mode & Exiting the Unit

The goal of Exercise Mode is to sustain and maintain the degrees of flexion and extension achieved in Therapy Mode. The client sets the time for between 5 and 10 minutes, presses Start and relaxes as the leg moves continuously, back and forth. If the client has not completed the suggested four daily sessions, he/she can flip through screens to the Quit box or turn off the unit and exit. If four sessions have been accomplished, complete the summary data screen and forward to the PT clinic. Exit the unit with caregiver assistance to keep the surgical leg straight until the client can stand. Secure the unit by covering with a sheet if left in place or dismantle until flat to slide under the bed.
